Terms of Use

Effective date: October 24, 2026

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of arborhillsmonitor.org (the "Site"). By using the Site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. What this site is

Arbor Hills Monitor is an independent, data-driven information project that collects and publishes public regulatory records and data about the Arbor Hills Landfill in Salem Township, Michigan. Its purpose is to make government regulatory filings, permit records, and monitoring data accessible to residents, researchers, and the public.

The Site is not affiliated with any government agency, with GFL Environmental or its affiliates, or with any advocacy organization. It is operated by Landfill Records Project LLC, a Michigan limited liability company. Public byline: Trisha Kunst.

2. No warranties; information is as-is

The Site and its contents are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the information is accurate, complete, current, or free of errors. Government regulatory records are transcribed and summarized in good faith from primary sources; always verify against the original source documents referenced on each page.

Specifically, we make no warranty that:

3. No professional advice

Nothing on this Site constitutes legal, medical, environmental, engineering, or other professional advice. The Site presents regulatory records and public data; it does not interpret those records as legal conclusions about compliance, safety, or liability. For questions about your rights, your property, or your health, consult a licensed professional.

The Site is not a substitute for official determinations by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) or any other regulatory agency. Always confirm regulatory status through EGLE's own portals (MiEnviro, nSITE) before relying on any record.

4. No reliance for action

Do not take -- or refrain from taking -- any action based solely on information on this Site without independently verifying the underlying primary source documents referenced. Each page cites its sources; go to those sources before acting. We are not responsible for consequences that result from relying on information here without independent verification.

5. Intellectual property

The original text, data visualizations, code, and analysis on this Site are the work of the publisher and contributors. Source code for the monitor is published under an open-source license at github.com/tkunst/arbor-hills-monitor (see that repository for the applicable license terms).

Government regulatory records we present come from EGLE and other agencies. U.S. federal government works are in the public domain; Michigan state and local government records are public records that the State does not generally assert copyright in, and we present them as public records and, where applicable, under fair use in a reporting and commentary context. Third-party materials (photographs, video, maps, and other content) are used with authorization, under fair use, or under other applicable rights; see the IP, Fair Use, and Provenance page for details.

The Site links to government portals, EGLE filings, and other third-party sites. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability. A link is not an endorsement.

7. Permitted use

You may access and use this Site for personal, non-commercial, informational purposes. You may cite or link to any page. Systematic bulk-download of documents hosted here (rather than from the primary EGLE portals) requires prior written permission.

8. Corrections and removal requests

If you believe any content is inaccurate or requires removal, please see our Corrections, Retractions, and Takedown page. We take correction requests seriously and respond in good faith.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Washtenaw County, Michigan.
