GFL took ownership of Arbor Hills Landfill on October 30, 2020, per their regulatory submission to EGLE (Nov 4, 2020, SRN N2688, signed by David Seegert).
On June 16, 2026, EGLE's Air Quality Division recorded 75 surface locations at or above 500 ppm methane above background at Arbor Hills, the highest 148,682 ppm at well 502R. (See the inspection page for the photographs and the full record.) Under the federal NESHAP rule (40 CFR 63.1958(d) and 63.1960(c)(4)), each of these is a documented exceedance on a corrective-action clock, not on its own a declared violation. What the public record shows, as of September 1, 2026. No per-location re-monitoring record (the 10-day re-monitor or the 1-month re-check) appears in the public file for any of the 75 locations. GFL has stated (in its August 21, 2026 letter to EGLE, relayed in EGLE's August 27 letter) that the locations above 500 ppm were successfully remediated, but that letter contains no per-location dates or readings. The First Semi-Annual 2026 NESHAP report, where these corrective actions must be documented under 63.1958(d) and 63.1981(h), has not appeared in EGLE's nSITE record for Arbor Hills as of this date.
The 120-day extension EGLE approved on August 27, 2026 is a separate track (the perimeter-monitor fenceline exceedances, under Consent Judgment 5.5(E)). It does not extend the June 26 surface-methane deadline.
Status below reads open for a location where the public record does not yet show close-out. It is not a finding that GFL failed to act; it flips to documented once a re-monitoring record surfaces.
